Gentle Care for Your Child’s Growing Smile

At Amp Orthodontics & Kids Dental, we know that no parent wants their child to need dental treatments. But when they do, we’re here to provide gentle, state-of-the-art care that focuses on preserving as much of your child’s natural tooth structure as possible.

We explore drill-free, non-invasive options whenever we can while also recognizing the importance of traditional treatments like crowns and fillings when needed to keep young smiles healthy. Our team partners closely with each family, offering clear information and support so you can confidently choose the safest options that protect your child’s oral health and maintain their smile’s function.

Above all, we prioritize your child’s long-term health through personalized, holistic, and minimally invasive care, ensuring they feel comfortable and confident every step of the way.

How often does my child need to visit the dentist?

Most children will benefit from visiting the dentist every six months. Leading dental organizations like the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend that visits be scheduled at least two times per year and that these visits start no later than your child’s first birthday.

But what if my child doesn’t have any teeth yet?

If your child doesn’t have any teeth yet, there’s no need to worry right away. Most babies get their first teeth between 6 to 10 months old, usually starting with the central incisors—the front teeth. However, every child is different.

If your baby reaches their first birthday without any teeth coming in, it’s a good idea to bring them in for a checkup. While delayed tooth eruption is often nothing to be concerned about, it’s important to have a dentist examine your child’s gums and development to rule out any underlying issues. Early detection allows us to address any concerns promptly, ensuring your child’s smile is on track for healthy development! At Amp Orthodontics & Kids Dental, we’ll make sure your little one is in great hands, from gummy grins to their first tooth and beyond!

Why do I need to clean baby teeth if they just fall out?

Baby teeth may be temporary, but they are essential for your child’s oral development. They help maintain the proper space for adult teeth, ensuring they grow in straight and aligned. With Dr. Adam Hoina’s orthodontic expertise, we understand how crucial these “placeholders” are in preventing future alignment issues.

In addition to guiding permanent teeth, baby teeth are important for chewing, speaking, and keeping the mouth healthy. Untreated cavities can lead to pain, infections or even impact the health of adult teeth. Traditional treatments include fillings and crowns, but at Amp Orthodontics & Kids Dental, we also offer minimally invasive options like Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) and P114 Peptide to stop decay and preserve tooth structure.

Caring for baby teeth now means amping up a lifetime of healthy, glowing smiles!

What if the tooth is decayed beyond repair?

You’d be surprised—we can often save teeth that look beyond repair! If your child’s tooth has severe decay, we may perform a pulpotomy to restore the tooth by treating the decay or infection inside. This procedure preserves the tooth’s structure, allowing it to function until it naturally falls out.

If a pulpotomy isn’t an option, we can explore alternatives like space maintainers. These small devices “hold” the spot where the baby tooth used to be, ensuring the adult tooth has the proper space to come in correctly, preventing alignment issues down the road.

Is brushing, flossing, and 6-month checkups all it takes to keep my child’s teeth healthy?

Possibly! While these habits are an excellent foundation for most children, every child is unique, and their needs may vary. Factors like pacifier use, thumb sucking, baby bottle tooth decay, diet, and other habits can all influence your child’s oral health. Some children may require additional support or more frequent monitoring beyond the standard six-month checkup.

At Amp Orthodontics & Kids Dental, we take a personalized approach, offering a range of preventive “helpers,” such as dental sealants, fluoride therapy, and non-fluoride options, to strengthen and protect decay-prone teeth. We’re here to partner with you and ensure your child stays on the healthiest track possible. Ready to get started? Call 336-999-0123 to schedule a checkup at our Clemmons, NC, office today!
